DANUBIAN LEAGUE FOUNDATION
The DLTH officially was founded on November 23rd, 1983, the by-laws accepted by the authorities in Linz on
December 12th, 1983.
In July 18th, 2001 the official seat of the Society was moved from Linz to Vienna.
"In the late 60ies and early 70ies I received many invitations to lecture in the former communistic countries. During that occasion I came into close contact with coagulation researchers mainly from the German Democratic Republic (GDR), from Hungary, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Russia and Yugoslavia. After several years I had the idea to organize also a symposium and to invite specialists on the topic for coagulation from the East and the West. On the one hand I wanted to return the great many of invitations, on the other hand I had the idea to gather researchers from both sides of the iron fence in a neutral place. From the colleagues I received an overwhelmingly positive response after the first series of invitations. The difficulties, however, were starting with the applications for travel permits at the respective authorities in the Eastern countries. In particular difficult was at that time, to get a permit for the researchers to leave the GDR. One had to write a letter to the Minister of Health of the GDR asking that based on the great many of invitations into the GDR to send a “delegation” to my meeting for researchers being able to talk on particular coagulation problems. It was not allowed to mention the names of scientists, so the topics had to be selected accordingly, that only the researchers I wanted came into consideration. From the other countries from the East it was easier to get that permission for travelling. I had, however, to guarantee for any incurring event (liability, eventual hospitalization, etc). A well-known pharmaceutical company in Vienna producing coagulation factor concentrates was helpful in taking over the guarantee. Now the preparation of the scientific and the social program started."
